Stronger OT Cybersecurity: A Four-Step Process

Cybersecurity threats to operational technology (OT) networks are causing security and risk management leaders at enterprises all over the world growing amounts of worry. The fact that cyberthreats, such as disruptionware, are always growing in both quantity and sophistication is a major factor in this. Because of their inherent insecurity, industrial control system (ICS) networks are classified as high risk due to their growing integration with corporate IT networks, as well as the development of remote access for both employees and outside parties.

A PC running HMI or SCADA software is an illustration of an IT network within a control system. Because this particular PC wasn't initially configured with the goal of connecting to IT systems, it often isn't controlled and is therefore unable to obtain the most recent versions of the operating system, patches, or antivirus updates. As a result, malware assaults on that PC are very likely. The complexity brought on by IT-OT integration not only raises the risk of cyberthreats but also increases the possibility of networking and operational problems.
